Dec 2009 - Delta Hospice receives $35,000 gift from BMO Bank of Montreal
The Delta Hospice Society is pleased to announce a generous gift of $35,000 from BMO Bank of Montreal to the capital building fund. This donation marks a milestone in the society’s fundraising efforts, bringing the remaining money needed to fund the project to $945,000.
The Society recently opened its doors to the Centre for Supportive Care and anticipates opening the Hospice residence by March, 2010.
“We are so pleased to have BMO Bank of Montreal backing our efforts to raise the remaining funds needed for our capital campaign. This donation brings us under the $1 million mark, which is very significant. We are pleased that BMO recognizes the importance of this project in our community,” says Delta Hospice Executive Director, Nancy Macey.
When faced with the diagnosis of life threatening illness, the Centre provides the individual, family and friends access to resources and support. The community can drop in for information, support, complementary therapies, counselling and referral to appropriate resources to effectively navigate the health care system. The hospice residence will enable the majority of residents of North and South Delta to remain in their own community to die when care cannot be managed at home.
Offering a unique and advanced model of care in British Columbia, with separate hospice residence and support centre, this project could become a model for other municipalities in Canada.
“Our donation to the Delta Hospice Society’s new Centre for Supportive Care and the 10-suite Residence is further proof of our commitment to supporting and strengthening health care services for citizens in the region,” said Jennifer Muench, Vice President, Vancouver District, BMO Bank of Montreal.
