Bereavement Groups

The Delta Hospice Society offers the following free therapeutic support groups that are held at the Centre for Supportive Care, 4631 Clarence Taylor Crescent, Ladner. For more information including the date of the next group, unless noted below, and to pre-register as required, please call 604-948-0660. Kids Grieve Too 

Do you know a child, aged 7-12 who is bereaved and might benefit from interacting with other children in similar situations? If yes, our kids’ groups can be helpful in reducing anxiety and anger, promoting healthy emotional expression, increasing understanding of grief and loss, and providing support through connection with others. A combination of expressive arts and play therapy is used. This two-hour group meets for six consecutive weeks and is led by a bereavement counsellor and supported by trained volunteers.

Pre-registration is required.

Adult Grief 

Have you experienced recently the death of a loved one and would like some support during this difficult time? Then consider joining our safe and compassionate group led by a bereavement counsellor and supported by trained volunteers where you will have opportunities to share with and listen to others in similar situations and offered tools to navigate your grief journey. This two-hour group meets for six consecutive weeks.

Pre-registration is required.

Suicide Grief Support 

If you are an adult who has had a loss due to suicide and wants the support of others in similar circumstances, our group may be a good fit for you. In this caring setting you will have opportunities to share your feelings and thoughts in a safe and supportive environment, learn about coping strategies and resources, and develop community with others. This two-hour group meets for eight consecutive weeks, and is led by a bereavement counsellor and supported by trained volunteers.

Pre-registration is required.

Bereavement Self-care and Relaxation 

Are you an adult who has been bereaved recently and would like to explore and implement self-care practices? Then join this group where you will learn a variety of self-care techniques and participate in experiential guided relaxation to help address feelings of depression, exhaustion and anxiety as they relate to grief. This two-hour group meets for six consecutive weeks, and is led by a music therapist and supported by trained volunteers.

Alumni Suicide Grief Support  **This is an on-going drop-in group that requires pre-registration

If you are an adult who has attended previously a suicide bereavement support group and would like to continue to connect with others with similar experiences on an ongoing or occasional basis, then consider this support group. As this is a drop-in group, you can attend as often as you like but pre-registration is required. This two-hour groups meets on the second Tuesday of each month, 6:30-8:30 pm and is led by a bereavement counsellor or trained volunteers.

Cooking for One

Are you an adult bereaved recently with limited cooking skills? Are you lacking confidence in the kitchen? Would like to meet others in similar circumstances? Then join this home-cook-led demo/hands-on group to learn cooking basics in a safe & fun environment. Recipes provided as are all the ingredients. You can take leftovers home too! Not appropriate for those with significant food allergies. The group meets for four consecutive weeks.

Pre-registration is required.

Bereavement Walking

If you are an adult who has been bereaved recently & would like to be physically active & connect informally with others who have experienced a significant loss, then this group is for you. Join others on gentle 50-minute walks in our neighbourhood with the option to share your experience of grief and loss. We walk rain or shine! You may choose to go out with the other participants for coffee, tea, etc after the walk; purchases are your responsibility. This group meets for a number of months over the year; one hour to meet and walk with an optional 30-minute off-site coffee/tea gathering. You may attend all or some of the walks. The group is led by trained volunteers.
