Irene Thomas Hospice

The Irene Thomas Hospice offers a peaceful, serene setting where people and their families can experience skilled and compassionate care in the last months or weeks of life.

Experienced nurses, counsellors, support staff and volunteers trained in hospice and palliative care work together to enhance a person’s experience in finding comfort, meaning, dignity and hope at the end of life.  All care needs are provided for including symptom management, personal care, and meals prepared in the hospice kitchen with individual patient preferences in mind.

A nominal daily fee, mandated by the Ministry of Health, applies for hospice stays. Please call 604.948.0660 if you wish to learn more information about the fee.

People who have experienced the care at our hospice have reported a positive experience.  We receive compliments on the level of care, the compassionate approach, and the extra touches that make the time at hospice meaningful.

Medical Procedures

Compassionate and skilled care provided at the Irene Thomas Hospice does not include the provision of any medical procedures on site. Some medical procedures are done for the purpose of comfort, but still require a transfer to a medical facility or treatment centre. Medical procedures may include palliative radiation, palliative chemotherapy, medical assistance in dying, surgical interventions, kidney dialysis or other procedures requiring a specialist team or hospital equipment. Transfers from Irene Thomas Hospice are sensitively arranged for each patient’s comfort when needing a medical procedure transfer to hospitals, treatment centres, their own homes, residential care sites or other place of a person’s choice.
